Part 01 (Introduction)
The point of this study is to examine the doctrine of the Trinity and to compare that to what the bible says. If you are ready to be challenged then read on.
Many Christians today believe that God is a Trinity and many would also say that the Trinity Doctrine is a major doctrine of Christianity. Others would say that it is the very foundation of Christianity itself. This study will look at the verses that are used by proponents of the Trinity doctrine and we also look at the verses that appear to contradict this doctrine. In addition to this, we will look back to the history and development of the Trinity doctrine and delve somewhat into the Hebrew and Greek languages with regards to certain scriptures and look at some writings from the 2nd century (that pre-date the Nicene Creed), to see if they taught the Trinity. Finally this study leads into a discussion forum where you can have your say or read other peoples comments.
If we know our bible, we know that the scriptures are here to guide, teach, and correct us. It is also a wise man who lets scripture teach and correct him when any belief he holds is found wanting. As true disciples of Christ, we should be ready to humble ourselves and align our doctrine with truth when it is revealed to us. On the other hand, if scriptures reinforce what we already believe, then we can be encouraged knowing that our Father in Heaven has already revealed those truths to us.
Today and throughout the proceeding centuries after the resurrection of our lord, I think it would be fair to say that most Christians who believe in the Trinity doctrine, have never actually checked it out to see if what they beleive is actually written in scripture. They just assume that it must be correct because it is what most churches teach. In addition, many people think it is wrong to question doctrines like this, yet we are really suppose to test all teaching and to test the spirits, so that we do not become deceived and so that we will also know with confidence what we believe.
Acts
17:11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that
they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures
daily, whether those things were so.
So searching the scriptures to see if what we believe or hear is encouraged in scripture and as Christians we should also be ready to provide a reason for the things that we believe.

Peter 3:15
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be
prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the
hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
The reality is that many Christians who accept the doctrine of the Trinity, also remain confused and even those who have a deeper understanding of it, will admit that they do not understand it completely when challenged. An answer you often hear is that the Trinity is hard to understand because God is beyond our thinking and understanding.
It also seems that many people believe in different Trinity doctrines or at least they understand this doctrine in different ways. Some believe that God is a being that shows himself in 3 different ways like water shows itself in the form of ice, steam, and liquid. Others believe that the Trinity is made up of 3 distinct personalities and these 3 are in complete unity in love and purpose. This last explanation is probably the most common.
Now I guess is
a good time to explain the Trinity doctrine:
The Trinity doctrine basically
says that there is one God.
The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.
Hence God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Three, but they make up one God. Each is co-equal and co-eternal.
God is described as a class or family made up of these three personalities.
This old diagram explains the Trinity doctrine quite well.
So let's move onward and look at what the scriptures say and see if they agree with the Trinity doctrine. Just click on the 'Next Page' button below to navigate your way through this teaching.

rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
