Did God have a beginning?

To answer this question I will let the Bible speak as it says a lot about this subject. Titus 1:2
a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,

The above verse shows us the God was before time and He cannot lie.

Psalms 147:5
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

This verse shows us that God's understanding has no limits.

Psalms 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

2 Samuel 22:14
The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.

Genesis 14:19
and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.

Hebrews 6:13
When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself.

The above verses show us that there is no one higher than God.

1 Timothy 1:17
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:15
which God will bring about in his own time God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

These verses above show us the He is the only God and He is eternal and immortal.

Revelation 10:6
And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay!

The above verse shows us that God lives for ever.

Isaiah 44:6
"This is what the LORD says Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

The above verse shows us that there was no one before God and no one after him and it confirms that He is the only God.

1 Chronicles 29:10
David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, "Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.

Revelation 4:8
Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

The above verse shows us that God is in the past, present and future.

This is but a small sample of verses in the Bible that talk about the eternal state of God. There are literally hundreds of verses and this is a common teaching and theme throughout the whole Bible.

Humans imagine all sorts of vain imaginations such as who created God or God himself must have a God and his God probably has one too and so on. We tend to do this because we judge God from our own experience, meaning that we say He must have a beginning because we and everything we see has had a beginning.

But God is outside of all that, in fact he is even outside his own creation and he also existed before time. King Solomon one of the wisest men who ever lived wrote the following in 1 Kings 8:27

"But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.

It is reasonable to conclude from the scriptures quoted so far that:

  1. God cannot lie
  2. There is no one higher than God.
  3. He is the only true God.
  4. He is in the past present and future.
  5. He is Everlasting to Everlasting, He lives forever.
  6. He is before all things and existed before time itself.
  7. He exists in and outside of His creation.

2 Timothy 3:16 shows us that all scripture is inspired by God, so the nature of God is revealed to mankind by a God who cannot lie. Remember that all lies come from the Devil, so all philosophies that say that God is not the Most High or Eternal is from the Devil as he distorts the truth, in order to try and seperate us from God. He is not called the enemy for nothing.

The great news is that the eternal God wants to give us eternal life in him, so we can live with Him forever. This privilege is only given to those who turn from evil and serve Him. This is the reason God created us, so that he could fellowship with us for eternity.

In Romans 6:23 it says

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord".
